Intelligent Smart Toys
Original title:
Intelligente Kuscheltiere
Artificial intelligence is slowly finding its way into children's rooms. Alongside the enthusiasm for technological progress, there is always a certain unease when it comes to the mechanization of children's toys. From Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to integrated cameras, microphones and GPS trackers, everything is being built in. Smart toys are turning the safe, sheltered children's room into a glass house.
The overarching aim is to explore the extent to which artificial intelligence can be credited with creativity and the ability to make creative decisions. As cuddly toys have to be designed within a very narrow social framework, they are the ideal test objects for putting the design skills of AI to the test.
An artificial intelligence (GAN) was therefore trained to generate images of cuddly toys, which are combined with cameras, microphones and circuit boards. The aim: to bring the danger that lies hidden beneath the plush and cuddly eyes to the surface and make it visible. The results are crazy creatures that you definitely wouldn't want to give to your children.
In summary, the following can be said:
The creative diversity is overwhelming. The number of results with market potential is sobering. No association can be made with earthly creatures, which is exciting in itself, but quite frightening for children.
